Bill Evans, Gil Evans, Mingus, Monk, Tristano, the drought has ended!

The rock and soul lps have been pouring in over the last few months like a gent getting some relief behind the slated for doom Rendezvous Lounge right before last call, but we’ve had a small jazz drought until this week. We got two boxes of jazz vinyl and a few heaping stacks of cds in. Most of the lps are nice reissues of classics in the affordable $4 to $8 range, but here are a few standouts. No time for now to post the standout cds, because this damn computer just caused me to spend about two hours on this simple task.
There is a special reading lined up for Normal’s also on Friday, October 7th. Kristi Maxwell and Megan Martin who are traveling on a book tour will be featured, along with Laura Van den Berg and Mike Scalise from Baltimore and DC. Please note it on your burgeoning social calendar! Plus there’s going to be a Shattered Wig Night on the first Friday of November. It’s the first one in quite a while and should be packed with fertile culture.
Beatles - Yellow Submarine. Sweet, near mint original Apple stereo in vg+ jacket. You know how hard it is to find early Beatles pressings in good shape. Kids would get fired up from Kix and Captain Crunch and RC Cola and then parade around in their pj’s all around the portable player, causing Rin;go’s beats to get all jittery. $15.
Beatles - Back-Track. This is a cd, but worth noting since it is a slick “private issue” deal. 27 tracks and the cover is an outtake from the infamous “butcher cover” session. $20.
Bob Brookmeyer and Bill Evans - As Time Goes By. Blue Note classic, $15.
Bill Evans - You’re Gonna Hear From Me. Near mint 1988 Milestone promo, $12.

Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus. And his autobiography could have been called Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus’ willie, but what a supreme musical genius. Candid 1977 pressing, $20.
Mingus At Antibes. Atlantic reissue, $6.
Mingus - Me Myself An Eye. Atlantic, $6.
Mingus - Nostalgia In Times Square/The Immortal 1959 SessionsColumbia double album promo, $12.
