A Giant Crab Comes Forth Clutching New Vinyl Treasures
Slipping into my Baltimore mid-summer swamp suit! Bring on the roiling sweats, baby. If you can’t escape to Prettyboy, Gunpowder or some lucky sucker’s pool (or best yet, the beach), nothing can take your mind off 130 degrees of merciless blazing heat and Dick Cheney crotch humidity than some fine literature or timeless tunes.
We just got in over two boxes of sweet sweet vinyl, most of them near mint promos of the ’70s. Plus half a shelf of William Burroughs, the Wellington version of Alice’s Adventures, Famous Monsters of Filmland’s 40th Anniversary (signed by the editor) and Self-Made Worlds by Sloan about some visionary artists who have their priorities right where we like them.
Also, this very Saturday is the monstrous Gold Plated Normal’s Night at the Golden West! Our good friend and all around major human Tony Lambright has hooked us up with some of Baltimore’s finest playing for cheap - a sliding scale at the door of $5 to $10 dollars. Show starts at 10 and features Asa Osborne, Spacecrafts and Insects (Liz Downing and Nate Bell), Madagascar, Walker & Jay and Bob O’Brien. Thank You might have to bow out due to a family emergency.
Hopefully the weather will break to a bearable 95 by then, but either way the music will transport you to a brain island where it’s always 72…….

Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band - Zoom! Near mint promo, $12. This man made college life during the grotesque Reagan years at University of MD College Park bearable. May he rest in peace filled with morphine worms. This contains such classics as “World War III”, “She Wants to Move In”, “Dare to Be Fat” and “Dozin’ and Droolin’”. Like Hunter Thompson, not a lifestyle to advocate, but occasionally it works, no matter how briefly, for some people.
